چکیده

Introduction Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is associated with an increased risk of heart failure independently of underlying coronary artery disease (CAD) [1]. Myocardial blood flow (MBF) and MBF reserve can be abnormal in patients with T2DM due to myocardial microvascular dysfunction, contributing to the development of heart failure [2]. The myocardial layers may be affected differently by this disease process.

Clinical value and severity of myocardial perfusion defects in asymptomatic diabetic patients with negative or weakly positive exercise treadmill test

Objective: Although coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death in type 2 diabetic patients, it is frequently asymptomatic. Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is reported to show ischemia in a significant number of asymptomatic diabetic patients. We studied the prevalence and severity of myocardial perfusion defects in asymptomatic diabetic patients and its clinical impact. Meth...

Correlation between serum levels of cystatin C and coronary slow flow and body mass index in men

Background: Cystatin C (Cys C) as a cysteine protease inhibitor is produced in a constant level from all nucleated cells. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between serum levels of Cys C and coronary slow flow (CSF) and body mass index (BMI) in men. Methods: This investigation is in the form of a descriptive-analytical study. The statistical population was all non-act...

Coronary microvascular adaptation to myocardial metabolic demand can be restored by inhibition of iron-catalyzed formation of oxygen free radicals in type 2 diabetic patients.

Dilation of coronary vessels is impaired in diabetic patients when myocardial metabolic demand is increased. Deferoxamine (DFX) restores a normal dilation of epicardial coronary arteries. To assess the effects of DFX on metabolic coronary microvascular dilation in type 2 diabetic patients, coronary blood flow was measured using intracoronary Doppler and quantitative angiography in 17 type 2 dia...

Multiple myocardial bridge in a 59 year-old woman

Introduction: Myocardial bridging is a congenital condition in which a segment of a major epicardial coronary artery has an intra myocardial route. Myocardial bridging is usually confined to a single vessel and is typically the mid segment of the left anterior descending artery. Bridging may be associated with chest pain, myocardial infarction, and sudden cardiac death, or usually asymptomati...

Relationship between coronary risk factors and the number of involved vessels in coronary angiography

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and cigarette smoking are major coronary artery disease risk factors. This study was performed to detect the correlation between major coronary risk factors and the number of diseased vessels in coronary angiography. Methods: This descriptive study was performed on 196 patients with coronary artery disease who underwent coronary ang...
